80 PLUS Certified
So what is 80 PLUS certified? we’ve all seen one of these stickers on our power supplies before. but what exactly does it mean? Well, 80 PLUS is a certification program for computer PSU’s. A voluntary certification program at that, with the intent of promoting efficient Energy use in power supply units.
80 PLUS was launched in 2004 by Ecos consulting. And was purposed to certify PSU’s that have at least 80% energy efficiency at 20%, 50%, and 100% of the rated load and a power factor of 0.9 or more at max load. 80 PLUS is currently run by Ecova.
So any PSU with one of these stickers on it means it’s been certified by 80 PLUS. and vigorously tested to make sure it doesn’t waste any more than 20% energy at multiple intervals. Furthermore, they have implemented a rating system for more efficient power supplies.
Ecova 80 PLUS currently has six levels. Standard 80 PLUS, 80 PLUS bronze, 80 PLUS gold, 80 PLUS, platinum, 80 PLUS silver, and 80 PLUS titanium. I have listed a chart below to show the differences in the multiple stages of 80 PLUS.

furthermore 80 PLUS certified PSU’s run at 80% effiencey on average. While 80 PLUS Titanium PSU’s run around 92% effiencey on average. So the higher 80 PLUS rating means more efficient energy use in computer power supply units. Meaning less wasted power.
